Acts Homes: Strengthening Milwaukee Through Homeownership

In a year where homeownership became even more challenging: Acts Homes is focused on the work that truly moves the needle:strengthening blocks, and expanding access to homeownership for families who are ready to take this step.

So far this year, over 50 families have already purchased Acts Homes, with a median sale price of $155,000. This “new” inventory allows families that must focus on affordability a chance to become homeowners.

Often, Acts Homes acquires distressed properties. Some of the houses Acts Homes takes on have been sitting vacant or deteriorated for years. Many would otherwise be bought by out-of-state investors. Acts Homes approaches them differently: with care, licensed contractor oversight, and attention to the things you can’t see but rely on every day.

“We’re not trying to make something that’s not safe look pretty so people will just like it and want to buy it,” says Kimi George, Acts Homes Construction Director. “Safe, sanitary, code-compliant—that’s really our foundation. I sleep better at night knowing that the house is safe.”

Over the past year, the team has strengthened internal processes, contractor networks, and project planning. According to George, the improvements aren’t about quality — that has remained consistent since the beginning — but about building the systems that allow Acts Homes to take on more work without ever compromising safety or standards.

“Our homes have always been high quality,” she says. “But every year, our processes get stronger. We get more efficient, more organized, and better at planning. That’s how we’re able to take on more homes without compromising safety.”

For every home Acts Homes acquires and repairs, there is a family who put in the time, education, savings, and determination required to purchase a home through Acts Housing. Their commitment is what brings the work full circle. Acts Homes’ role is to ensure that when a family reaches this milestone, there is inventory available and the home is one they can rely on for years to come.

The impact extends beyond individual families. Stable homes strengthen entire blocks — reducing vacancy, improving safety, and shifting long-term outcomes for neighborhoods that have seen decades of disinvestment.

Acts Homes is proving what’s possible when integrity, quality, and community drive the work.
There is more work ahead and Acts Homes is just getting started.
